Antares – Another Strike Squad and some more varied reinforcements

This latest Strike Squad is coming along much better than the rest. I started with white primer, then painted Ulthuan over the entire model, as I’ve done before.

The difference with this batch, is that instead of doing a wash layer then highlighting up, I painted the Drakenhof shade very carefully into the recesses. This allowed the white layer to be easier, since it was mostly just painting over the first Ulthuan, rather than needing a restorative layer of Ulthuan to bring it back.

I think they’ll need some Ulthuan to clean up the wash edges a bit more, and then I’ll do another thing of white at the top highlights again. But first, I’ll go into the deep recesses with Nuln Oil to deepen them a bit. When playing with the other squads, I found the ones with the darker edges looked better and wanted to go back on the lighter ones with more black.

I did an order from Warlord games and it arrived in less than 10 business days which was awesome! I picked up a NuHu to lead my troops, and an X-Launcher squad to get some more tactical flexibility when shooting those awful Ghar.

I also bought 2 packs of assorted drones, since I need a bunch of batter, shield, gun and medi drones around the army to get things done.

The Warlord metals have this awful thick “plate” of metal attached to their feet. I tried to hide it as best I could with assorted rocks and Vallejo texture paint, but I think I haven’t done as good a job as could be done. The NuHu is pretty good, but the Support team is iffy in places. Not certain what to do with them.

    Hi Craig!

I love that white concords! I found them, as you did, in Mateus’ Blog. So, repeating you statement “copying is the best complimet” I also startet a white concord army. Same as you I was confronted with some trouble. Now, may I ask you, if this is you final version of copying that colour? “prime white -> ulthuan all over-> drakenhof nightshade in recesses -> nuln oil in deep recesses -> cleaning with ulthuan -> highlights with white”

As you mentioned before, I’d love to come to the choop, to talk to you personally, unfortunately I live about 4945 miles (thanks googel) far away

    Best regards from germany!

    Thanks for saying hi!

Yes, that workflow of paints is my final. It’s not the best, because there is still a lot of stark contrasts between certain layers, and some of the washes/glazes are hard to control, so if they get outside of the position I put them, they are very difficult to clean up. It’s not as clean as Mateus did, but I like it a bit better for myself because it’s got more contrast and shading.

Feel free to ask any more questions you have!

    Thanks for your fast response!
    I will give it a try 🙂
I added magnets to all bases and will start priming them later.
What paint did you use for the bases?

    Greetings,
    Basti

    Nice! More concord!

It’s GW Snakebite Leather, with a couple coats of GW Seraphim Sepia. I then drybrush up with a GW…Blazing Orange? Their neon-ish orange colour.

    Great!
    Yes, its blazing orange.
Mateus answered me, He used a grey primer, added vallejo bluegrey pale all over, washed the recesses with a mix of nuln oil and vallejo pale grey shade, cleared up the wash with pale grey blue and highlighted with white. Nearly the same way as you did. I’m excited, if I can Do this job 😀 I will try both color scheme. Yesterday I started with priming white and added some blue and a wash to the energy parts of the weapons. Next step will be highlighting with a bright blue. I think starting with this parts may be less work cleaning the weapons, instead of painting them black first, but lets see 😉
